A new trailer and an official release date have been announced for Celina Stang’s debut feature film, Mother Mountain.

Written, directed and co-produced by Stang, Mother Mountain follows a young, restless Jewish mother and her family as they move to an idyllic country property at the base of a mystical and sacred Aboriginal mountain (Gulaga, or “Mother Mountain”), with the hope of starting a new life.

Still haunted by a marriage break-up and a strained relation with her parents, she struggles to find a meaningful connection with her new partner.

When her daughter is bullied at the local school, an enigmatic Indigenous boy Ren comes to her aid and opens her eyes to the magic of the mountain and its bucolic surrounds. But an unexpected visit from her parents reopens old wounds, with unanticipated consequences.

Mother Mountain is written, directed and co-directed by Celina Stang and co-stars Emilie Cocquerel, Fayssal Bazzi, Damion Hunter and Anne-Louise Lambert.

Mother Mountain will screen from March 16 – April 2 at the Jewish International Film Festival ahead of an official April 28 release date.

According the film’s Facebook page, the film will also screen at the Gold Coast Film Festival, although an official GCFF program is yet to be announced.
