CinefestOZ has announced that film submissions for the 2022 event are now open, held in the South West of WA in August (24 -28th August).

Filmmakers are encouraged to make submissions for the Official Selection and Short Film Program for contention in both the CinefestOZ Albany – hosted in WA’s Great Southern region in April – and CinefestOZ Film Festival in August, which has taken over the South West region for the past 14 years.

Submissions are also open for the annual Film Prize award, Australia’s richest film prize of $100,000AUD (applicable only for the August event in the South West).

CinefestOZ continues its expansion across WA’s breathtaking regions in 2022, engaging cinema audiences in iconic and picturesque locations, with the best of new Australian storytelling.

CinefestOZ chief executive officer Malinda Nixon said the festival would return with an ambitious line-up of films expected to reflect the highest quality of filmmaking talent from across the country.

“We can’t wait to see the wealth of Australia’s filmmaking expertise contending for our prestigious accolades in 2022,” Mrs Nixon said.

“Each year we are blown away by the diversity and creativity and we look forward to viewing all submissions.”

CinefestOZ would like to stress that selection for the Albany festival will not discount entries from the August Festival and will not impact a film’s premiere status.

Submissions for all categories are now open online and close on 1st of June 2022.

Categories in 2022 will include: Feature categories; Film Prize and Official Selection, Short Film categories; Best Short Film, CineWest Best WA Short, Best Indigenous Short, Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Lead Actor, and Audience Choice, as well as General categories and VR/XR expressions of interest.

CinefestOZ is excited to announce it will be partnering with WAnimate the WA animation organisation on their 3 Thirty competition to include their top three animations within the CinefestOZ Short Film Competition in August 2022.

This partnership has been cultivated with the aim of integrating the Australian animation sector within CinefestOZ and gaining national and international recognition for the filmmakers.

WAnimate chair Tanya Beeson said she was excited to bring more animation to the festival and expand the audience of the talented animators in Australia.

“WAnimate, the Western Australian Animation Association is excited to embark on this partnership with CinefestOZ who do a fantastic job of promoting film and film culture in Australia,” she said.

In 2022, CinefestOZ Film Festival will take place in Albany between April 28 and May 1, and in the South West between August 24 and 28.

Those interested in submitting a film should head to the CinefestOZ website.

More information is also available on the Film Prize, Official Selection, and Short Film categories.
