As a non-profit website dedicated to the support and promotion of Australian made films, Cinema Australia rarely gets the opportunity to throw cash at crowdfunding projects. Trust us, if we had the money we’d be executive producers on almost every new Australian film calling for supporters through the myriad of crowdfunding platforms available on the interwebs.
That’s why we’ve launched this new feature, The Crowdfunders, which will shamelessly plug projects calling for your dollar. It’s just another way for us to do what we love doing most – supporting Aussie cinema!
It should be noted though – and take this as a warning – that not all crowdfunding projects are successful and just because a project has reached it’s target, it doesn’t guarantee the film will be made, or that you’ll receive any reward or compensation for your donation. So in saying that, Cinema Australia takes no responsibility for any wrongdoing on the fundraiser’s behalf.
Now that the serious stuff is out of the way… here’s our latest plug.
Duplicate is a large scale short film production created and being produced by final year graduating Curtin Screen Arts students. The project is set to test our skills and push our film making abilities and talent into the professional arena.
The film follows a hard-nosed detective who breaks protocol in order to save an innocent girl’s life caught up in a national genetic cloning operation. However, the biological manufacturer commissioned to ‘sustaining human life’ commits every single resource to ensuring their profitable operation doesn’t stop.
How the funds will be used:
Charlotte’s futuristic Production Design; elaborately Sci-Fi props, costumes and set dressing
Action Vehicle rentals; which we’ll deck out as our Police cars
Professional Armourer; supplying us genuine replica firearms to make the gunfight even hotter!
Crew and Cast catering; boosting our energy and moral on-set every day we shoot
What they told Cinema Australia: “This film means a lot to all of us, it is a culmination of 3 years of work and study. It is not only a chance to showcase all our skills but also a real opportunity for all of us to prove to ourselves what we are capable of as individuals and as a group.” Brody Hayter
