Cut Snake is a gripping crime thriller, and the third feature film from award-winning Australian director, Tony Ayres. Shot on location in and around Melbourne, it tells the story of one man’s struggle to put the past behind him. Before it releases in Australian cinemas on September 24, audiences in Sydney and Melbourne will have the opportunity to attend an exclusive Q&A screening of Cut Snake with Tony Ayres.

Cut Snake features a stellar cast lead by Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire, Animal Kingdom, Kill Me Three Times), and rising stars Alex Russell (Unbroken) and Jessica de Gouw (These Final Hours). Set in Melbourne in the mid 1970s, it tracks the relationship between Sparra (Russell) and Paula (De Gouw), and the impact the charismatic and dangerous Pommie (Stapleton) has on their lives.

Tony Ayres is an award-winning film and television director, producer and writer. He is also one of Australia’s most respected filmmakers. Ayres’ debut feature film Walking on Water (2002) won five AFI awards and the Teddy Award at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival. Ayres’ next feature film, the semi-autobiographical Home Song Stories (2007), won eight AFI awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay. Ayres’ also directed one of the short films featured in the award-winning film The Turning (2013), based on stories by Australian writer Tim Winton.

In addition, Tony’s extensive television credits include the BAFTA award-winning series The SlapNowhere BoysDevil’s Playground and one of the most critically acclaimed Australian series of late, Glitch.

Cut Snake had its local debut at the 2014 Melbourne International Film Festival, and premiered internationally at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. It has also gone on to screen at the likes of the Palm Springs Film Festival 2015, Miami Film Festival 2015, Edinburgh Film Festival 2015 and the Byron Bay Film Festival 2015 – where it was awarded Best Dramatic Feature.

Following on from its festival run, Entertainment One will release Cut Snake in cinemas nationally on September 24, 2015.
