The first trailer for Brendan Cowell’s Ruben Guthrie dropped yesterday, at the same time it was announced as the opening night film for the Sydney Film Festival. Check it out below.
THEY SAY: Life is good for ad man Ruben Guthrie – he leads a party boy lifestyle, has a model fiancee and lives in a house on the water. He’s at the top of his game, until some drunken skylarking lands Ruben at the bottom of his infinity pool, lucky to be alive. His mum hits the panic button, and then his fiancee leaves him, but not before issuing him one final challenge: If Ruben can do one year without a drink, she’ll give him another chance…
Ruben Guthrie is the story of one man not only battling the bottle, but the city that won’t let him put it down.
CINEMA AUSTRALIA SAY: Dam! How’s the energy of this trailer? There’s so much to love about it! There’s a touch of The Wolf of Wall Street in it’s pace and character. The cast alone is worth a ticket especially the teaming of Patrick Brammall and Robyn Nevin as Mother and son, who, interestingly, play mother-in-law and son-in-law in ABC’s Upper Middle Bogan. Ruben Guthrie looks to be a worthy follow-up to Cowell’s telemovie The Outlaw Michael Howe.
Directed by Brendan Cowell
Written by Brendan Cowell
Starring Patrick Brammall, Abbey Lee, Jack Thompson, Robyn Nevin, Alex Dimitriades and Brenton Thwaites
Check out the website here. It’s static at the moment but we’re sure it’ll blast into action closer to the film’s release date.
