The wet weather couldn’t keep crowds away from the glamorous opening night of the 7th annual CinéfestOZ film festival in Busselton last night.
As rain fell steadily throughout the evening, VIP guests, stars and film enthusiasts enjoyed endless tucker and drinks in the CinéfestOZ tent before heading across the road to the Orana Cinemas.
Inside, Pemberton born filmmaker Julius Avery introduced his new film Son of a Gun to a keen crowd.
As if the pressure of his film’s premiere wasn’t enough, the audience included the CinéfestOZ film prize jury made up of actress Marta Dusseldorp, film selector Benjamin Illos, producer Sue Milliken, Margaret Pomeranz and jury chair, acclaimed Australian director Bruce Beresford.
“I’m really excited about showing my film tonight. I can’t wait. Unfortunately Ewan (McGregor) couldn’t be here tonight because he’s currently in a play overseas.” Avery told Cinema Australia.
Son of a Gun is an impressive, fast paced, action packed feature film debut from Avery. You’ll be able to read our full review of the film in the coming days.
CinéfestOZ continues tonight with the premiere of another WA film, John V. Soto’s The Reckoning.
