CinéfestOZ has announced the six finalists in contention for its inaugural $100,000 Film Prize 2014.

Felony, Son of a Gun, The ReckoningThe Waler: Australias Great War Horse and MIFF@CinefestOZ films My Mistress and Paper Planes have all been shortlisted for Australias richest film prize, to be announced at the festival on Saturday, 23rd August. 

The Film Prize is awarded to the producer of an Australian feature film or feature-length documentary and is the only cash film prize focussed on Australian feature films.

CinéfestOZ received more than 20 submissions for the prize, which is voted on by a  jury of five esteemed members of the film industry headed by director Bruce Beresford.

The Waler will have its world premiere at CinéfestOZ while the festival will also host the Australian premieres of Son of a Gun and The Reckoning. CinéfestOZ will also screen for the first time in Western Australia FelonyMy Mistress and Paper Planes.

At $100,000, the CinefestOZ Film Prize is Australia’s richest film prize open to Australian feature films and feature length documentaries that meet the eligibility criteria.

An independent jury will select the winner of the film prize at the CinéfestOZ film festival 20-24 August. This Film Prize is about recognizing great Australian film and people who work to bring these films to our screens. It also provides CinéfestOZ with an outstanding collection of new Australian feature films to draw people from all over the country.

Shortlisted films vying for the Prize will make their Western Australian premiere at the CinéfestOZ film festival, 20 – 24 August 2014.

The CinéfestOZ Film Prize is part of a three-year sponsorship arrangement with Eventscorp’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by the Western Australian Government’s Royalties for Regions. CinéfestOZ acknowledges its strong partnership with ScreenWest, Western Australia’s screen funding and development agency.

The full program of CinéfestOZ films and events, which take place in Busselton, Bunbury, Margaret River and surrounding areas, is released early August 2014.
