Damon Herriman and Jai Courtney in The Fox.
Madman Entertainment and Causeway Films have unveiled the teaser trailer for The Fox, writer/director Dario Russo’s striking debut feature.
A darkly comic folktale blending satire and surrealism, The Fox stars Jai Courtney, Emily Browning, Damon Herriman, Claudia Doumit, Zlatko Burić, Frankie J. Holden, Heather Mitchell, Peter O’Brien and Kim Gyngell with Sam Neill as The Magpie, Miranda Otto and Academy Award® winner Olivia Colman as The Fox.
The Fox follows an affable yet hapless bloke who encounters a talking Fox offering him the chance to transform his fiancée into the perfect woman. A cautionary tale disguised as a comedy, the film explores the dangerous desire and temptation to want to change another person rather than confront our own shortcomings.
Named one of Variety’s 8 Best Films at SXSW Austin where The Fox recently celebrated its international premiere, the film premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and will next screen at the Sydney Film Festival in June. The Fox was filmed and produced in South Australia with the support of the South Australian Film Corporation.
Russo said: “I’m very excited to share the first look of The Fox. It was an incredible experience working with such a talented cast and crew in making this film and I hope audiences will enjoy the ride (and also learn to be more careful when trusting foxes).”

Screen Australia Director of Narrative Content Louise Gough said, “Dario Russo is a singular filmmaker and The Fox seduces you into a darkly comic maze where you are constantly drawn forward and inventively surprised by where you are taken. Brought to life by an exceptionally strong creative team, The Fox is distinctly Australian in its sensibilities, foxy, wild and ultimately full of heart.”
After establishing himself as one of Australia’s most distinctive voices in comedy and high-concept genre, Russo, the multi-hyphenate artist who not only wrote and directed but also served as editor and composer, wanted to create a film based in emotional realism whilst carrying over the absurd sense of humour and surreal fantasy of his past work. Russo brings a uniquely Australian perspective to The Fox by biting emotional truth into an unforgettable ride.
Produced by Kristina Ceyton, Samantha Jennings and Carly Maple, The Fox is a Causeway Films production, the award-winning Australian production company behind films including Talk To Me, The Babadook, Bring Her Back and much anticipated Sundance-hit Leviticus. In 2026, Ceyton and Jennings received the Byron Kennedy AACTA Award for their contributions to Australian film. The Fox marks Causeway’s first foray into comedy.
The Fox will be released in cinemas on 29 October 2026.
