CinefestOZ Albany today revealed its 2023 film program which will showcase Australian stories and talent as part of the four-day festival to be held from 27 – 30 April in the historic coastal city of Albany, in Western Australia’s Great Southern region.

Presenting 15 features and 12 short films from Australia, France and New Zealand – festivalgoers will also enjoy filmmaker In-Conversation events, a Gala red-carpet night and free Community Days, featuring IndigifestOZ, as well as a dedicated Industry Program – connecting local filmmakers with national and international talent – and schools’ program Cinesnaps , which champions the education of young filmmakers.

CinefestOZ CEO Malinda Nixon said that she is delighted that CinefestOZ Albany is returning for its third year.

“CinefestOZ Albany is a wonderful regional event that attracts national filmmakers and their films, while also showcasing the beautiful Great Southern and the region’s creative talent,” Nixon said.

CinefestOZ Albany begins on Thursday 27 April with the regional premiere of Western Australian film Sweet As at Orana Cinemas. Join the team behind the film the next morning for an In-Conversation Breakfast at Hilton Garden Inn. Written and Directed by First Nations Filmmaker Jub Clerc, Sweet As is a heartfelt story based on Clerc’s early years.

Blueback

Throughout the festival, locals and visitors will have the opportunity to watch a selection of proud Western Australian films such as Blueback, starring Mia Wasikowska and Eric Bana; incredible documentaries including Corners of The Earth: Kamchatka, Everybody’s Oma and Shackleton: The Greatest Story of Survival; and a selection of Indigenous documentaries such as The Last Daughter and You Can Go Now.

The international selection includes French title Tenor and New Zealand features Kãinga and Punch.

CinefestOZ Albany will unfold in the region’s cinemas and stunning venues, where audiences can enjoy the company of film stars, up against the gorgeous backdrop of the Great Southern.
