Umbrella Entertainment has added Australian feature Awoken to their list of homegrown horror films releasing in 2021.

Starring Erik Thomson (Storm Boy), Sara West (Bad Girl) and Benson Jack Anthony (Emo The Musical), Awoken is the feature debut for director/producer/writer Daniel J. Phillips. Produced entirely independently by Meridian Pictures in South Australia, Awoken premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival 2020 with multiple sold out screenings.

A mystery-driven horror, Awoken centres around Karla (West), a young medical student trying to cure her brother, Blake (Anthony) from Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI) – a terminal illness that renders him unable to sleep. On her quest to treat him, she discovers a sinister reason for his worsening condition.

Though influenced by cult horror film The Russian Sleep (2015) along with classics such as The Exorcist (1973) and The Shining (1980), Awoken holds the unique premise of sleeplessness leading to demonic possession.

Awoken is now available on DVD and on Video-on-Demand.

This competition has now closed. Thank you to everyone who entered.
T&C: Competition closes Tuesday, 23 February 2021.
