Revelation Perth International Film Festival has announced Animal Kingdom will screen at the next Australian Revelations in September.

How many careers did this classic Aussie crime drama invent, reinvigorate and propel?

Written and directed by David Michôd, and starring Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce, James Frecheville, Luke Ford, Jacki Weaver and Sullivan Stapleton, the entire film is uniformly outstanding and wholly engrossing.

An absolute cracker of a film, Animal Kingdom tells the thinly veiled true crime story of a family caught in a cycle of violence drugs and hard-core activity on the wrong side of the law.

The film tracks 17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody, a troubled kid caught between his own criminal family and Detective Leckie (Guy Pearce), a compromised cop who thinks that he can save him. J comes to realise that in order to survive, he must write his own rule book and choose his place in the brutal animal kingdom. Along the way the family embark on a downward spiral of double-dealing, cat and mouse games with the cops and murder.

With dozens of international awards under its belt and an Oscar nomination for Jackie Weaver, Animal Kingdom is as tight as a snare drum, invigorating and exciting by anyone’s standards and an absolute must-see Australian classic.
