Geoffrey Tozer.
Janine Hosking’s provocative Australian documentary The Eulogy will screen across the country over the next week as part of the Young at Heart film festival.
The Eulogy is a stark exploration of the rise and fall of the extraordinary Australian pianist Geoffrey Tozer. His story is framed poignantly by Paul Keating’s re-enactment of the famous eulogy the impassioned ex-Prime Minister delivered at Tozer’s funeral.
Often referred to as a prodigy, in his early life Tozer won accolades and awards worldwide from Sydney to London to Tel Aviv. However, his mid-life saw his career wane dramatically, leading to his eventual untimely death at the age of 54.
Through interviews with Tozer’s friends and colleagues combined with footage of the pianist’s life, Australian conductor Richard Gill delves into the reasons why such a towering natural talent could fall victim to such a tragic ending.
