Australian release date confirmed for Damien Power’s Killing Ground

Mushroom Pictures has announced an August 24 release date for Damien Power’s debut feature, Killing Ground. Powers will be joined by the film’s star Harriet Dyer and other key cast in a series of Q&As taking place in the film’s opening week.

Killing Ground wowed audiences and critics at its International Premiere at the Sundance Festival earlier this year where the edge of your seat thriller was likened to Don’t Breathe, Wolf Creek and Straw Dogs and acclaimed as ’a white knuckle debut’ (Variety), ‘a smart killer thriller from downunder’ (We Live Entertainment) and ‘wickedly clever’(Nerdist).

Described by writer/director Power as ‘part of a long tradition of Australian cinema exploring our sense of unease in our own backyard’, the finely crafted thriller is a modern campfire story about fear, violence, heroism and the limits of courage.

It tells the story of young urbanites Ian and Sam who arrive at an isolated campsite to discover another tent already set up, but no sign of its owners. As night falls and the campers fail to return, Ian and Sam grow increasingly uneasy. The discovery of a distressed child wandering alone sets off a terrifying chain of events that will push them to their limits – and beyond.

Killing Ground stars Harriet Dyer (Logie Award nominated actress for Most Outstanding Newcomer and Most Popular New Talent) who plays Sam, and Ian Meadows (HBO ‘s The Pacific) who plays Ian.

The chillingly unforgettable criminal duo German and Chook are played by Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road) and Aaron Glenane, most recently seen in the film Truth alongside Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford.

Damien Power has written and directed several award-winning shorts that have screened at festivals worldwide including Venice, Busan, Sydney and MIFF, as well as online as part of YouTube/Scott Free’s inaugural Your Film Festival. Following the success of KILLING GROUND at Sundance he has been signed to CAA, the world’s leading talent agency.
