A brand new teaser trailer has dropped for Ben Young’s critically acclaimed festival favourite, Hounds of Love.
The trailer for the Perth-shot drama couldn’t have come at a more surreal time with news breaking today that WA police have charged a man with the murders of Ciara Glennon and Jane Rimmer and attacks on two teenagers in 1995 and 1988. Killings that shook the WA community to the core during the mid-ninties and still haunts many locals today.
Hounds of Love is set in the summer of 1987. Seventeen year old Vicki Maloney is abducted by serial killer couple John and Evelyn White, with escape seeming impossible, she begins to observe the dynamic between her captors and quickly realises she must drive a wedge between them if she is to survive.
Young’s film has also drawn comparisons to David and Catherine Bernie – Perth serial killers who murdered four Perth women in the 1980’s.
Despite the film’s inspirations, which I’m sure are drawn from many real-life cases, Hounds of Love stands alone as far as story and originality goes. The trailer’s score is heavy and ominous and Curry’s short screen time is truly menacing.
Hounds of Love is, above all, the film we’re most excited to see in 2017.
