Melbourne’s Cinema Nova will host a special screening of classic comedy Malcolm on Sunday, March 22. The 1986 Melbourne shot film stars Colin Friels and John Hargreaves.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Nadia Tass and screenwriter David Parker and will be hosted by Adam Elliott.
Colin Friels stars as Malcolm, a thirty-year old whose mechanical aptitude is highly developed, but whose emotional and social development stopped a long time ago. He lives alone in his recently deceased mother’s house – watched over occasionally by local milk bar proprietor Mrs T (Beverley Phillips) and works for the tramways as a maintenance man. The long suffering Mrs T suggests that a boarder may be the answer to Malcolm’s impending financial difficulties, leading to the arrival of Frank (John Hargreaves), a crim who inadvertently uses Malcolm’s abilities to further his career.
