Spread the joy with The Best of Joy House Film Festival!
After the success of the Joy House Film Festival held in Sydney in 2014, this light, uplifting short film festival will be coming to Perth on a ‘best of’ tour. This short film festival will be part of the popular Summerset Arts Festival which runs from 16th January – 7th February. The Joy House Film Festival will be held on Sunday the 1st February 2015.
Doors open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start at a pop-up Venue at Scarborough Beach Reserve, which runs for approximately two hours.
Joy House Film Festival’s director and founder, Joy Hopwood, a former Play School presenter, says “The aim of The Best of Joy House Film Festival is to showcase the best short films that have a positive theme of joy, made by emerging filmmakers from Australia and overseas. The films selected are suitable for families, film lovers and filmmakers alike. “Originally hailing from Perth myself, I’m really excited to be bringing The Best of Joy House Film Festival back home! The two main aims of this festival are to spread joy as far and as wide as possible and to support diversity.”
The Joy House Film Festival is the only festival in Australia which is supported by Actor’s Equity Australia’s Diversity Committee.
The Best of Joy House Film Festival will showcase a shortlist of the best of the Joy House Film Festival films from the past two years.
WA-made films include ‘Anon’, written and directed by local Perth filmmaker Hannah Klassek. Hannah was a Finalist in the 2010 WA Screen Awards. Pearl Tan is another Perth based filmmaker whose film, ’Minority Box’, will be shown.
Other films that will be presented include ‘Origami’, directed by Mansoor Noor. ‘Origami’ stars Neighbours actor Remi Hii, who has also been cast in Netflix’s upcoming drama Marco Polo.
Andy Trieu, host of SBS PopAsia and Kitchen Ninja, stars in ‘Gaffa’, directed by Adrian Chino Castro.
The festival will be giving away lucky spot prizes at the event. Don’t miss out!
Additionally, in the lead up to the event Joy House Film Festival is holding an online competition inviting audiences to ‘spread the joy’. Event attendees are asked to upload ‘positive images of joy’ on their Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook pages with the hashtags #SpreadTheJoyPerth and #SummersetArtsFestival to be in the running to win a $200 Karrinyup Shopping Centre gift voucher and 20 Bakers Delight vouchers.
