Green Frog Productions today announced that acclaimed Australian screen icons Gary Sweet and Marta Dusseldorp will star in Before You Leave, a powerful new drama from director Jye Currie, whose previous feature The Promise earned widespread critical acclaim. 

The film marks Currie’s third feature and is written by Currie alongside Edward Vassie.

Production begins October 2026 on location in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

Before You Leave is an intimate and unflinching exploration of the trauma of war, how it lives on in the soldiers who carry it, and how it ripples outward into the lives of everyone connected to them. 

At its heart is a story of two strangers whose lives collide at a pivotal moment, Dusty, a Vietnam War veteran confronting his own mortality and a lifetime of unresolved pain, and Rose, a social worker navigating struggles of her own.

What begins as a simple request for help unfolds into something far more complicated, a reckoning with identity, memory, and the impossible task of coming home to a world that was never built to understand what soldiers carry with them.

Gary Sweet takes on the role of Dusty, with Marta Dusseldorp starring as Rose, two of Australia’s most respected performers coming together for a story that promises to be as emotionally powerful as it is timely.

With an aim set for Australian cinemas, Green Frog Productions is in discussions with international distributors, with its sights set on premiering Before You Leave at major international film festivals, and hopes to secure the same recognition here at home. 

Adding further momentum to the announcement, Stan Australia has already secured the streaming rights and locked in an air date of August 2027, ensuring the film reaches audiences nationwide following its theatrical run.

“War doesn’t end on the battlefield. It follows soldiers home, it sits at their dinner tables, it shapes their families and the people who love them, often in ways that go unspoken for decades. With Before You Leave, I wanted to explore that long shadow with real honesty, not just what happens to the individual, but what happens to everyone standing beside them. 

“Working with a cast as extraordinary as Gary and Marta gives this story the depth and truth it deserves, and I couldn’t be more proud to bring it to life.”

Before You Leave is directed by Currie who also co-wrote the film with Edward Vassie.
