Davo Hardy has announced the commencement of production on Emily, in Particular , an evocative independent family drama, set against the vibrant backdrop of 1970s Australia.

This heartfelt coming-of-age tale will explore the nuances of family bonds, personal growth, and the pursuit of big dreams, all anchored by the transformative historical era of social and political upheaval.

Touching upon the post-Whitlam reforms and radical shifts in attitude, surrounding the Women’s Liberation movement, director Davo Hardy’s eighth feature film promises to be a nostalgia-filled and uplifting cinematic experience.

“I haven’t been this excited to launch a production since my first feature, over twelve years ago,” says Hardy.

“Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of directing some deeply personal and profoundly cathartic screenplays, and Emily, in Particular is no exception.”

Originating from a simple, yet vague, exam prompt, Emily, in Particular tells the story of a young woman’s arrival into adulthood; becoming an unwed expectant mother, while those closest to her are thriving with unprecedented opportunities.

Free education and the ever-evolving role of women in the workplace resonate deeply for Emily’s ambitious sister, Cheryl, but for Emily, the future seems a lot less certain and it’s from this place of social stigma that Emily begins to self-actualise.

Featuring a talented cast, led by Ashley Kruyer and Hannah Forsyth, both in their feature film debuts, Emily, in Particular is being shot in Western Sydney and promises to immerse audiences in a culturally-rich period of Australian culture.
