Glenn Triggs has unveiled the trailer for his brand new feature film, Ancestry Road, and boy, does it pack an emotional wallop.

Written, directed, and produced by Triggs, Ancestry Road follows Kevin, whose daughter continually goes missing up the back of their Scottish Farm. To make life easier on everyone, Kevin builds a road. Things begin to change, though, when deceased family members begin arriving in their cars for a visit.

Ancestry Road had two cast and crew screenings recently, and both were a huge success according to Triggs.

“There were a lot of people in tears, and there was a long silence during the credits as people processed the film,” Triggs tells Cinema Australia.

Ancestry Road is dedicated to Triggs’ Mum who passed away two years ago.

“Everyone has family, so everyone will be able to relate to this film. The final moments of the film really bring everything together and were the real reason I wanted to make this film. It hits hard on an emotional level,” says Triggs.

Triggs tells Cinema Australia he made Ancestry Road as a love letter to his mother, which made the entire process of producing the film a release of the emotional energy and grief he was holding onto.

“Everything that went wrong during the production of Ancestry Road pales in comparison to what my Mum went through throughout the final stages of her life. It really put things into perspective.”

The feedback from the early screenings of the film has been positive so far according to Triggs, with many people telling him that they related to the film on a strong emotional level.

“We’ve all lost someone. I’ve witnessed people become vulnerable following those screenings, telling me stories of a parent they never had the chance to say goodbye to, or it has brought up a recent event and somehow helped them get through it,” says Triggs.

Finally releasing the trailer for Ancestry Road is somewhat of a relief for Triggs, who has been working on the final version for a few months.

“This film means so much to me, and I can’t wait for the world to see it.” says Triggs.

Ancestry Road stars Seb Muirhead, Jessica Stanley, Bill Munro, Charlotte Grey, Finn Bertschi, Gillian Unicomb, Anne Cordiner, John X, and Jodie Wolf. This is the fifth film from Triggs following his previous feature films 41, Apocalyptic, The Comet Kids, and Dreams of Paper & Ink.

Ancestry Road is eyeing a mid-2024 release. Keep an eye on cinemaaustralia.com.au for updates.
