CinefestOZ Film Festival has named three young WA-trained actors as Ambassadors to this year’s event, to be held over five-days in Australia’s stunning South West.
Sophia Forrest, Alex Williams and Travis Jeffery — all graduates of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts — are some of the exciting young talents emerging from within Australia’s film and television industry.
CinefestOZ Chair Helen Shervington said it was an honour to have three WA-trained talents championing Australia’s premier destination film festival.
“Sophia, Alex and Travis are all incredibly talented professionals and we are proud to once again be welcoming them to the South West for an immersive five-day film experience, this year as CinefestOZ Ambassadors,” she said.
“Having WA-trained gems like Sophia, Alex and Travis at the forefront of CinefestOZ is a testament to the incredible growth and burgeoning talent within the Australian film industry.”
Sophia Forrest graduated from WAAPA in 2016 and went on to tour internationally with the theatre production Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Coriolanus. She has appeared in Black Swan State Theatre Company’s production of Let the Right One In and hit TV show, Love Child. Film credits include Reaching the Distance, Aquaman and the directorial debut from Rachel Griffiths Ride Like a Girl, which will have a special screening during CinefestOZ.
Alex Williams is fast becoming a prominent figure of the Australian film and television industry. Since graduating WAAPA in 2011, Williams has amassed a variety of theatre, film and television credits. These include lead roles as Romeo in The Bell Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet, and in the feature-length film Underground: The Julian Assange Story. Credits also include Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, Underbelly Files: Chopper, and The Heights. He joined CinefestOZ in 2014 for Paper Planes, which went on to win the coveted Film Prize.
Travis Jeffery graduated WAAPA in 2012 and has gone on to prove himself a skilled and versatile actor. His credits include international roles in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, as well as Australian roles in season one of the TV series Wolf Creek and the Hamish and Andy miniseries True Story. On stage he performed in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest as Billy Bibbit, which was followed by the critically acclaimed Tonsils & Tweezers, for which he received a Broadway World Best Actor in a Play nomination. He recently finished shooting on Danger Close: The Battle Of Long Tan, The Heights, and season four of the AMC series, The Preacher.
CinefestOZ returns from 28 August to 1 September for its 12th consecutive year and will showcase more than 150 film events, including 15 world, 11 Australian and 53 WA premieres.
Set against the backdrop of WA’s iconic South West region, CinefestOZ combines the excitement of a premiere screening with beautiful South West food and wine experiences at the region’s cinemas, wineries, boutique breweries, small bars and galleries.
CinefestOZ is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program. Rio Tinto is a proud Premium Partner of CinefestOZ. The festival acknowledges its strong partnership with Screenwest, Western Australia’s screen funding and development agency.
