This short was created as my graduate project from Griffith Film School. I am so eternally grateful to the entire cast, crew, and mentors who came together to make this project possible.
The final work is the culmination of nearly a year’s worth of hard work and dedication. It is because of them – as well as the many brave souls who shared their own experiences of grief to help in the telling of this story – that the project exists at all. For that, I cannot thank them enough.
After She’s Gone is a film inspired by my own personal experience with loss. It’s a hard thing to fathom, when we grow to learn that someone so important to us is gone forever. It was this feeling of immense grief and pain that I wanted to explore on screen.
In exploring this through cinema, I wanted to take the audience through my own honest experience of how loss felt to me. Its raw, uncomfortable, and frequently ugly – but it’s the truth.
I think there’s a little bit of us in these broken and damaged characters, which is why I found it such an important story to tell. My hope is that in creating this, it might find someone who has experienced a similar time in their life, and help them to feel a little less alone.
