Palm Beach, a new feature film written by Joanna Murray-Smith and Rachel Ward, and directed by Rachel Ward, will start filming at Sydney’s iconic Palm Beach and surrounds from next week, until early July.
Palm Beach stars Bryan Brown, Sam Neill, Greta Scacchi and Jacqueline McKenzie, as well as Swazi-English actor Richard E Grant (Gosford Park, Logan, Withnail & I). The film’s leads will be joined by a stellar ensemble cast including Logie winner Claire van der Boom (The Square, The Pacific, Masters Of Sex), AACTA Award and Logie winner Aaron Jeffery (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, McLeod’s Daughters, Underbelly), AACTA Award nominee Heather Mitchell (The Great Gatsby, A Place To Call Home, Griff The Invisible), AACTA Award nominee Matilda Brown (Let’s Talk About, Lessons From The Grave, Am I Okay) and newcomers Frances Berry and Charlie Vickers.
Palm Beach is a drama-comedy about a group of lifelong friends reuniting to celebrate a special birthday, with Palm Beach providing a stunning backdrop for the unfolding drama. The good times roll with loads of laughter, lavish meals, flowing wine and fantastic music, but slowly tensions mount and deep secrets emerge.
“Palm Beach is filled with colourful characters and a plot that explores the complexities between different generations and life-long friends,” Rachel Ward said. “I’m excited to get started with a cast of many old friends and husbands.”
Producers are Bryan Brown for New Town Films, and Deb Balderstone for Soapbox Industries. Palm Beach received principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with Create NSW, and was financed with support from Destination NSW and Spectrum Films. Entertainment One (eOne) will distribute the film in Australia and New Zealand, with its boutique sales outfit Seville International handling worldwide sales.
