New images dished up for The BBQ – Charity screening announced

by Matthew Eeles

A handful of new images have been served up for the new Australian comedy, The BBQ.

It has also been announced that a special Telethon community screening will take place in Perth following the world premiere in Albury-Wodonga, NSW. A series of advance screenings around the country will take place over the Australia Day long weekend ahead of the film’s February 22 national release.

The BBQ is described as a gentle comic fable about family, food and fulfilling your potential. It follows laid-back suburban everyman Darren “Dazza” Cook (Jacobson), who loves to entertain his friends and neighbours with his weekly backyard barbecues. Dazza has also inherited a dubious family history linked to explorer Captain James Cook. While his 12-year-old son, Jayden, is challenged to prove this ancestral link, Dazza takes his passion for the barbecue out of the backyard and into the international arena.

The BBQ was largely funded by Screen Australia, Soundfirm, Revolution Partners, Film Victoria, IGA, Barbecues Galore and Heat Beads. The release is accompanied by a cook book.

Stephen Amis (The 25th Reich, The Real Thing) sat in the directors chair while sharing producer duties with Lynne Wilson, Tait Brady, Deb Fryers.
