Priscilla Cameron’s The Butterfly Tree will have its WA premiere at this year’s CinefestOZ.
Directed by Priscilla Cameron and produced by Bridget Callow-Wright, The Butterfly Tree stars Melissa George, Ewen Leslie, Ed Oxenbould and Sophie Lowe.
The film tells the tale of Evelyn, a burlesque queen who bewitches single dad Al and his teenage son Fin. When father and son discover they are competing for the affections of the same woman, it reopens old wounds over the death of Fin’s mother.
In other, very exciting news, Ewen Leslie will join Jury Chair Scott Hicks as part of the 2017 Film Prize Jury panel.
Ewen is a West Australian actor and WAAPA graduate who has had an extensive career working across film, TV and theatre.
Some of Ewen’s film and TV credits include The Mule, The Railway Man, Sleeping Beauty, Kokoda and Jewboy, for which he received an AFI nomination. Most recently he has starred in The Daughter, The Butterfly Tree, and in series two of Top Of The Lake opposite Nicole Kidman.
Ewen’s theatre credits include Ivanov, Thyestes, The Wild Duck, Hamlet and Richard III. The actor received a Helpmann Award and a Green Room Award for his role in Richard III, as well as a Helpmann Award and Sydney Theatre Award for his role in The War of the Roses.
The Butterfly Tree will premiere at the Margaret River Cultural Centre on August 24, and will be followed by a special Q&A with the filmmakers.
