Ben Young’s debut feature film, Hounds of Love, will have its Australian premiere red carpet screening on Thursday 18 May at Luna Leederville, with star Stephen Curry in attendance. Over 100 WA cast and crew will walk the red carpet including Perth producer Melissa Kelly from Factor 30 Films.
Hounds of Love had its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2016 where it announced the arrival of a striking new Australian filming talent in Young, who wrote and directed the film.
Since collecting festival awards in Venice and Brussels, anticipation for the film has been mounting both in Australia and overseas, with the film scheduled to be released nationally in Australian cinemas on June 1 through Label Distribution.
The film features compelling performances from its lead actors WA actress Emma Booth and Ashleigh Cummings, and a particularly unflinching turn from Stephen Curry, cast against type as a brutal killer.
Set in Perth in 1987, Hounds of Love is a drama-thriller set in an era when the city still didn’t lock its doors at night. Hounds of Love delves into the now staple of Australian film: unsuspected violence behind ordinary suburban doors. John (Stephen Curry) and Evelyn (Emma Booth) look ordinary enough if a bit rough; nobody guesses what goes on behind closed doors. Inspired by real life crimes, Hounds of Love is a confronting thriller examining themes of breaking free from psychological control and domestic violence.
“Hounds of Love is through and through a psychological thriller,” says writer and director Ben Young.
“It’s fast moving, confronting and deals with characters involved in the most brutal of human behaviour. Despite the subject matter the film ultimately portrays the power of love and how it can either destroy us, or help us live to see another day,” he said.
Invitations for the Australian red carpet premiere in Perth on May 18 have hit the mailboxes of Perth VIPs today, where cast and crew will walk the red carpet at Luna Leederville with Stephen Curry. Following the film, he will take part in a Q&A hosted by Christian Horgan, before the cinema transforms into an after-party featuring Cool Perth Nights DJ Aoife Daly, Siena’s pizzas hand-crafted Smoked Vodka cocktails from Old Young’s Distillery in the Swan Valley, Gage Road Beers and a selection of wines from Luna.
Last week a limited number of tickets to the premiere screening sold out in record time. Luna Palace Cinemas are proud to announce a second Q&A screening with Stephen Curry on Friday 19 May, 6.30 pm at Luna Leederville. This is a Q&A screening only, with Christian Horgan back as host of the event.
