Celebrating 20 years of Revelation Perth International Film Festival

Revelation Perth International Film Festival will celebrate its 20thanniversary in 2017 and has officially announced its dates as 6-19 July.

Revelation Festival Director Richard Sowada said the event had quite humble beginnings but was now a mainstay of the WA arts calendar.

Revelation commenced in 1997 in a basement backroom in Perth’s Greenwich Club with one person, two ancient 16mm projectors and 12 films. Today the event attracts over 13,000 patrons viewing over 120 international films presented at cinemas, galleries, cafes and bars across Perth.

Revelation also includes industry discussion sessions, live performances, masterclasses, visual art exhibitions and since 2012, an academic component.

“The scale and diversity of activity annually is quite enormous but perhaps the most rewarding thing is placing WA and its filmmakers right at the centre of the international industry with some of the most acclaimed and inventive films and filmmakers” says Sowada.

“It’s also gone from being ten days a year to effectively a year-round activity through video-on-demand, our monthly Australian Revelations screenings and our Fringe World program in summertime.”

Highlights of this year’s festival were captured by local production company JAZAM Films and have been released online

“I reckon our 2016 highlight reel gives you a pretty good sense of the explosion of colour, sound, ideas and activity during Rev” enthuses Sowada. “The collaborative spirit and open-mindedness we approach the festival with is always refreshing for audiences and invigorating for us – it’s such an honest and vibrant exchange”.

Revelation’s call for entries and call for papers for the Academic Conference for the 2017 festival are currently open.

Revelation Perth International Film Festival is proudly supported by Screen Australia and ScreenWest.
