Next Gen returns – Short film showcase to feature guest speaker John Jarratt

Next Gen returns on Sunday August 14th at The Backlot Perth!

This jam packed event will commence with the short films playing straight up at 6pm, an intermission at approximately 7pm and a new Cinema Australia presents Q&A segment with John Jarratt via Skype plus local filmmaker Steph Power in house.

Next Gen have also added a “Best Film” award to be presented to the winning filmmaker after the Q&A which is decided by the audience! So make sure you come along to network, get involved in the Q&A, watch some great local shorts and vote for your favourite film.

Steph works as an actress, producer, writer, director and teacher. Her multi-model creativity focuses on one thing: storytelling.
A WAAPA graduate in both Acting and Directing, she has worked in production for Polygram Films and Channel Four in London, Barron Films on TV series Ship To Shore in Perth, and in 2011 formed her own production company Enigma Films to create and produce film and TV projects.
She has since developed a TV comedy series with Ruby Entertainment, been script advisor on the US/Aus feature co-production In The Wake, and co-produced in-development the feature Masquerade with ex-Hollywood producer Robert Raymond, as well as script and post-advising on several other screen projects.
She recently produced the short film Hiccup directed by London based actor/director Gerry Lepkowski. Shot in Perth, with post-production done in London, Hiccup recently had successful screenings at both the Manhattan and Cannes film festivals.
Her next project is producing and directing her own short Stuck.

Next Gen’s very first Cinema Australia presents Skype guest on August 14th is none other than John Jarratt!
John is best known for his role in Australian films and Stan series Wolf Creek, playing the villain Mick Taylor and is hailed by Quentin Tarantino as the best Australian actor.
John is not only an amazing actor but also a producer and director.
