Australian Revelations announces May’s screening

Australian Revelations is a celebration of Australian film through a year-round, ongoing series of screenings and the celebrated Australian film Wake In Fright will headline the next event on Monday 25 May.

Wake In Fright tells the nightmarish story of a schoolteacher’s descent into personal demoralisation at the hands of drunken, deranged derelicts while stranded in a small town in outback Australia. Believed to be lost for decades, the film now returns as what the New York Observer says “may be the greatest Australian film ever made”.

“Wake In fright is a deeply – and I mean deeply – unsettling and disturbing movie”, says film legend Martin Scorsese, “I saw it when it premiered at Cannes in 1971, and it left me speechless. Visually, dramatically, atmospherically and psychologically, it’s beautifully calibrated and it gets under your skin one encounter at a time.”

Each Australian Revelations feature screening will be accompanied by a Western Australian made short film, providing opportunities for local filmmakers to have their work seen by new audiences.

Australian Revelations will screen at the new The Backlot Perth facility in West Perth and tickets are available via at
