Mitchell Holland’s paranoia thriller Unboxing delivered to Prime Video

Mitchell Holland as Tom in Unboxing.

Mitchell Holland’s award-winning thriller Unboxing has officially arrived on Prime Video, inviting audiences into a dark, suspense driven mystery where internet fame comes at the ultimate cost.

Winner of the ABC iView Pitch Competition at Melbourne WebFest 2019, Unboxing follows Tom Faker (played by Holland), a wannabe streamer hungry for fame, who orders a ‘mystery box’ from the Dark Web in a desperate bid to boost his online following. But when more packages arrive containing something more disturbing than the last, Tom’s livestream becomes a real time descent into paranoia, danger, and an unfolding missing person case that may hit closer to home than he ever expected.

From web series concept to now feature film, Unboxing echoes of Spree, Searching and Clickbait, blending macabre mystery with the chaotic culture of online chatrooms, exploring the eerie tension between influencer ambition and the dark corners of the internet.

Across the film’s 75 minutes, more than 4,200 individually written chat messages pulse through the screen, turning the livestream audience into a character of its own – unfiltered and impossible to ignore.

Brought to life through a deeply collaborative effort, Unboxing showcases the unified vision of its creative team. Led by writer, director, producer and lead actor Mitchell Holland, the film is truly shaped by a passionate ensemble of rising Australian talent.

DOP Andy Burkitt crafts the film’s tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, capturing the isolating world of an online streamer. Sound designer Benni Knop (Noisy Post) amplifies the suspense with a nuanced soundscape of unnerving textures and spine-tingling chills, immersing audiences in Tom’s spiralling paranoia.

The film’s emotional depth and psychological complexity are further enriched by the haunting performances of Jess Ciancio, Pauline Grace and Oliver Murdoch, that will linger with you long after viewing.

Now streaming worldwide, Unboxing invites viewers to dive into a mystery that’s as twisted as the internet itself.

Unboxing is out now via Prime Video.
