Indigenous Australian horror It Will Find You reveals first look poster

Indigenous Australian horror film It Will Find You has released a chilling new poster to mark its selection for SXSW Sydney 2025, following a successful premiere at CinefestOZ in August as the bold new Aussie horror builds momentum toward an anticipated 2026 theatrical release.

The film marks a significant breakthrough for emerging Tasmanian Indigenous writer-director Chris Broadbent, bringing a fresh First Nations perspective to the horror genre alongside an acclaimed cast including AACTA Award winner Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road franchise) and Kylah Day in the lead role.

The supernatural horror follows Emily (Kylah Day, Netflix’s Territory), a young Indigenous woman who unwittingly reactivates a generational curse that has laid dormant for 25 years. Dismissed as mentally unstable by those around her, Emily must reconnect with her ancestry to defeat the vengeful evil spirit “Giniirr” before it claims her life as payment for her ancestors’ sins.

It Will Find You explores themes of inherited trauma, cultural identity, and family bonds through a fictional Indigenous mythology, while addressing the vital importance of respect for Country and the struggles of mental health in today’s climate. The giniirr serving as both supernatural antagonist and metaphor for the lingering impact of historical injustices faced by Indigenous Australians.

“As someone distanced from my own First Nations heritage, this film became my way of re-engaging with the broader Indigenous community while honouring the resilience and storytelling traditions of the Kamilaroi people,” said Broadbent, who founded Meraki Films in 2021.

The production has been developed with extensive cultural consultation and support from Uncle Richard Green, Traditional Owner & Chief of the Kamilaroi Native Title Committee, who serves as Executive Producer.

Joining Day and Pedersen in the impressive ensemble cast are AACTA Award winners Luke Ford (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) and Nicholas Hope (Bad Boy Bubby), as well as Ursula Yovich (Top End Wedding), Guyala Bayles (6 Festivals), Tahyna McManus (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Brooke Blurton (The Bachelorette Australia) in a breakout first film role.

“It’s good to see young indigenous actors and actresses coming up through the ranks… the next generation” said Pedersen from the set of the film during production.

The film is co-directed by Enzo Tedeschi, a versatile filmmaker whose credits include cult horror hit The Tunnel, and Shudder Original Series Deadhouse Dark. He recently co-directed the documentary Love Over Money (Executive Producer Joaquin Phoenix) and made his theatrical feature debut with the conspiracy thriller, Event Zero.

Alongside Broadbent and Tedeschi is emerging producer Helen Tuck, named one of Inside Film magazine’s ‘Rising Talents’ in 2024, who is shepherding her second feature film through post-production, a sci-fi titled Resonance. The terrifying practical creature effects are crafted by the BAFTA and Oscar-winning team at Odd Studio, who won the Academy Award for Mad Max: Fury Road and have worked on major blockbusters including Furiosa, The Fall Guy, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Alliance Media Partners (AMP) will be in Century City in November representing the film for worldwide sales at the upcoming American Film Market.

Umbrella Entertainment represents the film for Australia and New Zealand.
