With an acting career spanning three decades across film, television, and theatre, Australian screen icon Susie Porter needs no introduction.
Beloved for her performances in acclaimed television series such as East West 101, Puberty Blues, and Wentworth, as well as in films like Paradise Road, Welcome to Woop Woop, and Two Hands opposite the late Heath Ledger, Porter now stars in The Travellers – a poignant, funny, and heartwarming family drama from legendary Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford.
The Travellers follows Stephen Seary (Luke Bracey), a charismatic and successful stage designer who returns to his small Australian hometown to say goodbye to his dying mother.
What begins as a quick visit soon unravels into chaos, drama, and hilariously awkward moments as Stephen juggles family tensions, an uneasy relationship with his father, and encounters with old friends and past lovers – all while racing to return to Europe for a major opera contract. Susie plays Stephen’s sister, Nikki, in the film.
Susie Porter recently visited Perth to celebrate the film’s release where Cinema Australia grabbed a few moments with her at The Backlot Perth to talk about the film. Shot in Western Australia, The Travellers features stunning locations including the historic Wheatbelt town of York and the coastal hub of Fremantle.
The Travellers is in cinemas from October 9.
