Think you can make a movie in just one weekend? Quick Takes is calling your name.
Presented for the first time by the Newcastle Comedy Festival and Newcastle Film School, and proudly sponsored by FilmInk and Cinema Australia, Quick Takes is a brand new 44-hour short film competition open to creatives of all backgrounds and experience levels.
Running from July 25 to 27, teams will receive a mystery prompt on Friday night and have exactly 44 hours to write, shoot, and deliver a finished short film. No experience? No problem. No fancy gear? Still welcome. All you need is creativity, commitment, and a bit of caffeine.
Entry is entirely free, making it accessible for anyone keen to test their storytelling skills under pressure.
Finalists will be celebrated on the big screen at the Quick Takes showcase and party on Sunday, July 27 at Newcastle Comedy Club, forming part of the Newcastle Comedy Festival’s Closing Night.
Current prize pool includes:
● Tickets to The Naked Gun from Paramount Pictures.
● ClubInk memberships
● Newcastle Film School scholarship
● Half-day colour grade and sound mix for your next project
● Tickets to the NCF26 Gala
● 4-hour session in a professional podcast studio
● $200 Newcastle Comedy Club voucher … with more to be announced!
Join the challenge, tell your story, and see where 44 hours of creativity can take you.
