Production is now underway on Find My Bones, a psychological horror feature set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales.
Written and directed by Jennifer van Gessel (Water Horse), the film reunites her with lead actor Lauren Grimson (Water Horse) and introduces Samantha Allsop (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Kaitlyn Boyé (Puzzle Box) to the fold.
Also joining the cast are Ryan Panizza (Anyone But You), Angus McColl (Content is King), Jessica Ferguson (Cobra City), and Olivia Sawyer (Ver. Fine Day), rounding out a powerful ensemble.
“Filming Find My Bones has been an incredible ride, I’ve learned so much and really pushed myself, all while making something deeply personal,” van Gessel tells Cinema Australia.
“It’s been amazing working with such exceptional people, all on their own journeys too, sometimes the strange parallels between real life and the film have been a bit surreal. Shooting in freezing temps hasn’t exactly been easy, but that’s all part of the adventure. It’s been challenging, rewarding, and I’m so proud of what we’re creating.”
Find My Bones follows a couple grappling with fame who escape for a weekend retreat only to find themselves drawn into a deadly game with a malevolent force lurking in the snowfields. The film explores perceptions of lesbian relationships and sexuality through a supernatural lens while posing the provocative question: Do we manifest our own reality?
Produced by Brendan Byrne and Janine van Gessel, with executive producers Janine Sheehan and Nina Friis for Far From Everything Films, Find My Bones blends atmospheric isolation with gut-punch horror, tapping into the darkest corners of human fear and desire. While it plays with some tired horror tropes, the film twists them in unexpected ways, offering a fresh, singular take that sets it apart in the genre.
