Principal photography is underway on Andrew Leavold’s new action-comedy, The Taller They Come.
Shooting on location in “Kumawood”, Ghana, the film is an international co-production between Australian production companies Trash Video Archives and Maximum Daddy-O and Ghanian action-movie sensation, Ninja Productions, whose no-budget “theftsploitation” takes on popular Hollywood and Hong Kong sci-fi and action have delighted adventurous cult-movie fans around the world.
As if making a feature on location in Ghana wasn’t challenging enough, Leavold also stars as Alby Wrangler, a holy-fool film director who travels to Ghana to join Kumawood veteran, Samuel K. Nkansah in remaking the Jamaican movie classic, The Harder They Come as a Spaghetti-Western / kung-fu hybrid with a cast of local little-people.
The Taller They Come marks Leavold’s return to narrative features after a string of heartfelt documentaries on pop-culture outliers, beginning with the surprise hit, The Search for Weng Weng.
This is the third collaboration in as many years for Leavold and Executive Producer, Brett Garten, following on from Pub: The Movie and Film Safari Ghana.
Leavold and fellow Australian actors Kristen Condon and Kiefer Findlow will join a mammoth cast of over forty Kumawood actors and stuntmen to bring the irreverent and action-packed script to life.
Findlow will do double-duty as DOP, while Nkansah also doubles as line producer, fight and stunt choreographer and VFX artist. Nkansah hopes the film will be a showcase for the local talent of the Kumasi film scene.
The Taller They Come is scheduled for release in Australian cinemas late 2025. Leavold and Garten will handle worldwide sales.
