Damian Hussey’s Girls’ Night Out is now available on digital and disc

Girls’ Night Out

Now available on Digital and Disc, Girls’ Night Out is both a slick, honest, funny, relatable take on the Australian university/party experience from the female perspective, and a critique of toxic masculinity and Australian drinking culture, as a boozy, bar-hopping night of laughs, sex and friendship shockingly takes the darkest of turns.

Best friends Brie (Emily Rowbottom) and Abby (Stephanie Kutty) decide to go out for a celebratory night on the town after Brie is offered a new job. Their night of partying leads to encounters with drug dealing party girl Holly (Montana Jones), love interest Marcus (Paris Moletti), nemesis “Big Red” (Emily Georgiou) and lovesick Ken (Trent Owers). It’s a cautionary tale of how quickly a night of celebrations can turn bad, how every decision has consequences and how circumstances completely out of your control can destroy you.

When discussing his inspiration for the film, writer-director Damian Hussey says, “The core of the story is the relationship between Brie and Abby. Despite them being in their late twenties, this is a coming-of-age story, as they prepare to enter the next phase of their lives. Brie is about to start a professional career and Abby is considering getting married. To do this, they may need to leave their partying ways behind. They have doubts about their futures and worry they’re making choices because of society’s expectations. Most people can relate to this. It’s also a cautionary tale of how things out of your control can seriously affect your life. All of their choices throughout the night have consequences, but the result isn’t their fault. There is no excuse for the violence that takes place. Australia has a drinking culture and most people have experienced blurry nights they struggle to remember. I intend the film to be a critique of this culture, but reserve judgement.”

Filmed on location in Queensland’s Gold Coast, featuring terrific performances from an exciting cast of emerging actors, spotlighting female friendship while examining the culture of violence against women that plagues our society, Girls’ Night Out is now available to rent or buy on digital and disc.
