Stephen Curry, Andrew Godson and Jackson Tozer in Hatchback.
Following a mega-successful film festival run, including screenings at CinefestOZ, Revelation Perth International Film Festival, and St Kilda Film Festival, Riley Sugars’ AACTA-nominated short film, Hatchback, is now available to watch right here!
Hatchback is a black comedy shot in Melbourne during early mid 2021, which centres around two men attempting to dispose of a dead body for the mob.
Starring esteemed AFI/AACTA Award Winning actor Stephen Curry (The Castle, Hounds of Love, The King: The Graham Kennedy Story) as Vince and Jackson Tozer (Mr Inbetween, The Newsreader, Deadloch) as Ted,the two hander comedy is a fusion of films like Reservoir Dogs, Planes Trains and Automobiles and Weekend at Bernies.
The film also stars Andrew Godson (La Brea) as The Body.
Directed, produced and co-written by Sugars (known for short film Rabbits), Hatchback originated from an idea by co-writer and co-producer Chloe Graham. While listening to murder podcasts and driving, Chloe spotted a small hatchback and wondered if a dead body could fit in the boot. With strong encouragement from Riley, the two wrote the film during Melbourne’s lockdown in 2020 over zoom.
Cinema Australia caught up with Sugars to discuss the film here, as well as Tozer here.
