Belinda Lack in Shallow Breath.

After a successful international film festival run where it won the Light in Motion Award for Best International Short Film at the Oscar, BAFTA and Canadian Screen Qualifying Foyle Film Festival in Northern Ireland in 2021 and was officially selected for Seattle International Film Festival in 2022, Australian short film Shallow Breath is now available to view below.
Melbourne based director Robbie Studsor was humbled by the success the film achieved internationally.
“Shallow Breath is quite atypical in many ways and takes a few risks, so for it to be selected by Seattle International Film Festival and of course to win the Light in Motion Award for Best International Short Film at Foyle Film Festival in 2021 was an unforgettable experience and an award that I was truly honoured to receive,” says Studsor.
The film was highly commended by the jury at the 2021 Foyle Film Festival for “its efficiency in narrative storytelling, beautiful cinematography and sound design which made the compelling story brilliantly executed.”
Made in between lockdowns in 2021 with veteran Melbourne cinematographer Garry Richards (Patrick 2013, Girl at the Window 2022), Shallow Breath is described by Studsor as: “A hypnotic deep dive into the psyche of a drowning survivor and the dangerous fixation she has developed on the accident and the woman who saved her life.”
With a lean running time of five minutes, the ideas in Shallow Breath run deep and Studsor is currently expanding them for a larger canvas.
“Shallow Breath is currently being developed as a feature film, which is really exciting. It’s going to be very different to the short film and definitely more aligned with the horror genre, something along the lines of La Piscine meets Hereditary,” says Studsor.
In the meantime, Shallow Breath is available to view for free on Vimeo below!
