What’s On [NSW]: AFTRS 50th anniversary program will screen nine Australian classics

The AFTRS Library Presents 50th Anniversary Screening program is a celebration of feature films that have been made by AFTRS Alumni.

In the last 50 years, the school has produced many talented filmmakers that have been at the forefront of cinema culture, producing work that has moved, challenged and thrilled audiences around the world. AFTRS Alumni have had their work screened at countless major International Film Festivals, as well as going on to win Academy Awards, AACTAs, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, Emmys and hundreds of guild prizes.

This program shines a spotlight on the wonderful legacy of our screen practitioners, whose work continues to inspire. Each film in this series was Directed by an AFTRS Alumni, and almost all of them feature Alumni in in key creative roles including Producers, Cinematographers, Editors, Production and Costume Designers.

In partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), the films in this program will be presented entirely on 35mm prints borrowed from their collection, treating audiences to a rich and unique cinematic experience.

The first film to screen as part of the series will be Phillip Noyce’s Dead Calm on March 28 at 6.30pm which will also feature a special video introduction from Phillip Noyce.

Other films to make up the program will be Bad Boy Bubby, Babe, Radiance, Beneath Clouds, Somersault, Bright Star, The Loved Ones and Samson and Delilah.
