Suffa from Hilltop Hoods features in Burn Gently.

A new trailer and release date have been announced for new Hip Hop documentary, Burn Gently.
Burn Gently is an exploration into the ins and outs of the Australian music industry, its growth, pressures, expectations and hardships, its success and failings; all through the lens of some of the most influential artists in Australian Hip Hop.
Burn Gently Ent. is comprised of artist and event management duo Sensible Antixx (director), Hip Hop luminary N’fa Jones (co-producer) and Hideaway Productions.
The project boasts some of the biggest names in Aus Hip Hop including 360, Suffa (Hilltop Hoods), Bliss n Eso, Thundamentals, L-FRESH The LION, Mantra, Matt Okine, MC Trey, Michelle Grace Hunder, Baker Boy, Def Wish Cast, Mirrah, Genesis Owusu, Sampa The Great, Drapht, Urthboy and many, many more.
“We feel like Hip Hop has always had to fight for its place in the Aus Music scene. And as we started to have conversations with artists we could hear the differentiation between a ‘Music Industry’ and a ‘Music business’ has been prevalent in the culture of Hip Hop and it’s music since day dot. Why does that exist? We wanted to tell a story that championed the incredible careers and influence of the many artists, whilst demonstrating that an often stigmatised genre is so much more than it’s common stereotypes,” says director Sensible Antixx.
Production from Hideaway Productions, the documentary addresses social issues in how the public and community listen to Hip Hop, how we absorb and engage with the borrowed culture in our own back yard… The complexity of racism, drug abuse, violence, misogyny, and mental health issues, whilst also championing the unique work of all the beautiful personalities we meet along the way. What does it mean to be a “rapper?” The incline seems to be as fast as the descent, so how is creativity nurtured (or potentially exploited) in one of the world’s most followed genres?
The project’s journey follows a life of dreams, opportunity and success, interviewing some of Australia’s most influential and prolific musicians. Yet it also unapologetically addresses life’s failures, pressures and how we treat a creative mind in the lime-light. How is it that such creativity, such talent, is still so riddled with misconceptions, stigmas, judgment and exploitation?
A cinematic piece that endorses engagement within the music industry, encourages and supports the next generation’s involvement in the creative arts, whilst also portraying a positive message that addresses diversity, equality, creativity and community.
