Back in September, Cinema Australia announced that HALO Films had partnered with Adelaide’s Wallis Cinemas Piccadilly to screen the WA distributor’s slate of quality productions.
In more exciting news coming from the industrious distributor, HALO Films has now cast its distribution net even wider by adding Five Star Cinemas in New Farm, Brisbane to an ever-growing list of national cinema partnerships which also includes Luna Palace Cinemas in Perth, Melbourne’s The Classic in Elsternwick, Lido Cinemas in Hawthorn, Darwin’s Deckchair Cinema, and The Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Sydney.
“I’m excited and honoured to announce Five Star Cinemas in New Farm, Brisbane as a valued partner of HALO Films and bring local Australian stories to the big screen,” HALO Films managing director Ian Hale tells Cinema Australia.
“Thanks to their support, our films will find a national cinema audience after the incredible support we have had from our wonderful exhibition partners in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin and Adelaide and now Brisbane.”
Black Cockatoo Crisis, a didactic documentary following the plight of Western Australia’s iconic black cockatoos, will be HALO Films’ first movie to screen interstate in 2023 at The Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Lido Melbourne, Piccadilly in Adelaide and Five Star Cinemas, New Farm in Brisbane throughout February with Darwin to follow.
“Five Star Cinemas are excited to be a screening partner in Brisbane for HALO Films and share their vision, as supporting Australian films is something we are passionate about. We look forward to screening Black Cockatoo Crisis in February,” says Five Star Cinemas general manager, Rosham Adams.
All interstate screenings of Black Cockatoo Crisis will include a Q&A with director Jane Hammond – a filmmaker and freelance journalist specialising in stories of environmental justice, action on climate change and social affairs.
2023 is already shaping up to be a big year for HALO Films with Adam Morris’s sophomore feature film Frank and Frank (or The Valley and the Walrus: Ruminations on the Mystery from Soup to Nuts), and Luke Griffiths’ GREEN: The Fight for Rock and Roll set for a release under the HALO Films banner.
