Welcome to the latest episode of the Cinema Australia Podcast.

In this episode, host Matthew Eeles is joined by WA-based filmmaker Sarah Legg whose new film Cherubhead is one of the most unique, beautiful, intriguing, and thought-provoking Australian films you’re ever likely to see. It truly is quite unlike anything else.

Here’s the synopsis: Marie Annette (Legg), a virtuous socialite invites orphan Ellie (Angelina Curtis) to a holiday home in the hopes of adopting her. However, when Sophie Piero (Nicola Kinnane) comes to stay at the home on account of a family research program, things head south.

Sarah’s description and explanation of her film during this interview is much more in-depth.

To say that Sarah is an exciting new talent would be an understatement. When you get the chance to see Cherubhead you will discover a filmmaker who refuses to play by the rules or to work within the confines of conventional cinema.

In this interview, Sarah talks about her beginnings as a filmmaker, the support she has received from her encouraging parents and how she turned their house into a film set, the origins of Cherubhead and how it’s influenced by philosopher Machiavelli, and much more.

Cherubhead will be screening at The Backlot Perth on October 29 at 7pm. Keep an eye on cinemaaustralia.com.au for further release announcements.

Anyway… enjoy.
