Cinema Australia Podcast #84 | Sophie Saville & Rowan Devereux

Rowan Devereux on the set of Evicted! A Modern Romance.

Welcome to the latest episode of Cinema Australia Podcast.

Here, host Matthew Eeles is joined by filmmakers Rowan Devereux and Sophie Saville to discuss two of their new films, feature film Evicted! A Modern Romance and short documentary Inspire Me!

Evicted! A Modern Romance follows a ragtag bunch of millennial housemates who decide they need to get their shit together if they want to find a new place to call home. On top of job hunting, side hustling and dating, they have to navigate the hellish rental market full of surprises.

Inspire Me! follows comedian Madeleine Stewart. Determined to become the most inspirational disabled person ever, Madeleine embarks on a journey to become a Paralympian.

Sophie Saville.

Rowan was born in Perth and is the eldest of six children. After realising this fact, he fled to Sydney and studied screenwriting at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. He has over a decade of experience specialising in directing, screenwriting and film making.

Sophie was born in Sydney but raised internationally. Growing up as a third culture kid she lived in six countries before the age of 18. One constant was Sophie’s love of filmmaking and having a Sony Handycam strapped to her hand. Graduating with a Bachelor of Media Arts and Production in 2014, she began her career as a freelance videographer and photographer.

Rowan and Sophie met in a bar and decided to found The Story Mill, a boutique production company that creates short films, documentaries, podcasts, oh and even a feature!

Anyway. Enjoy.

Both Evicted! A Modern Romance and Inspire Me will screen at CinefestOZ from Wednesday, 24 December. Details here. For those elsewhere around the country, you can keep up to date with future screenings via cinemaaustralia.com.au.
