How To Time Travel will hold its premiere at The Astor Theatre in Melbourne on Tuesday 22nd April with all profits donated to beyondblue.
Writer and Director Samuel Sheffield took time out of his busy schedule leading up to the premiere to let Cinema Australia readers know a little more about his film.
How To Time Travel has been in the works for a couple of years now. I wrote it when I moved to Melbourne three years ago and I redrafted it and worked on it and eventually hit the point where I showed it to a few people for feedback.
After sitting over many coffees and hearing where I needed to tweak the script, I just decided to bite the bullet and make a feature. I’ve always wanted to make feature films, ever since I was a kid. I met Ali, my producer, and she basically said “let’s make a movie”. We held auditions and got Kat, our Associate Producer on board, then chose our cast and crew and locations.
That’s simplifying the whole process a little bit, but basically we had a bunch of generous, talented people willing to be involved, and it meant we managed to shoot and produce a feature in the space of 7 months. The film became a massive collaborative effort and it stopped becoming my own work a long time ago.
Everyone dedicated so much to it that How To Time Travel has really become the work of everyone involved- it’s no longer my feature film, but a joint venture.
Any profits we make from How To Time Travel will be donated to beyondblue . We’re also making our premiere at The Astor Theatre a massive fundraising event for beyondblue, donating the entire proceeds from ticket sales to their cause. Tickets are only $5+bf, but the Astor has such a capacity that we have a really good chance of donating a great sum to beyondblue.
We just wanted to have a night where we can celebrate with our friends, family and the people that got involved in this film, show off our work, which we are immensely proud of, and raise money for a good cause. It should be a great night of music and film and we honestly can’t wait to share it with everyone.
With an acoustic performance from James Seymour of Triple J Unearthed’s We The People, the How To Time Travel premiere will be an evening to celebrate emerging Melbourne artists in a beautiful venue, all the while raising money for a good cause.
The choice of venue was a simple one, with The Astor Theatre being a Melbourne institution which has historically provided the film community with screenings of influential films, whether classic, cult or recently released. As a venue it makes going to the cinema an event and an experience, and the How To Time Travel premiere will be no different.
