Vale Joyce Jacobs

There’s a lot to admire about an elderly woman knocking back a middy.

That’s the defining image of Joyce Jacob’s character, Esme Watson, on A Country Practice.

Born in 1922 in Surrey, England, Jacobs played minor rolls in Number 96 and The Young Doctors before landing the roll of Watson in Channel 7’s long-running, much loved TV series.

3 years after the cancellation of the Channel 10 version of the show, Jacobs appeared in the short film Heaven on the 4th Floor written and directed by Mark Bellamy.

Perhaps one of the Australian television industries biggest crimes, Jacobs never won a Logie.
