Play it Safe is the debut feature film from writer/director Chris Pahlow. The film follows Jamie, a 26-year-old musician, who is out of work and down on his luck. Play it Safe explores a generation caught between endless opportunity and the pressures of conformity. Drawing inspiration from the observational tone of directors Richard Linklater and Mike Leigh, as well as the mumblecore film movement, Play it Safe tells its story with honesty and authenticity. The film features unobtrusive black and white camerawork, naturalistic dialog, and unaffected performances from a mostly non-professional cast. The result is an engaging, refreshing look at twenty-something life that appeals to its audience with authentic emotion, humor and pathos.
